Soil Regen Graduate Stories

Jennifer and Justin Bajema

We are heading home after a week full of learning so many new things and solidifying our beliefs about farming regeneratively. I feel more concern for the many people that have no idea that the degradation of soil is causing a ridiculous amount of problems.

But I am extremely hopeful with the many young and old farmers at these Soil Health Academys that are choosing a better way to farm.

I remain fully convinced that change is only going to happen from the ground up. Each and every time you decide to support a regenerative farm is a vote for a healthier future. I have so much more to share with y’all. Just you wait…

Thank you Jennifer and Justin for attending our recent Soil Health Academy and for all you’re doing to grow healthier soil, food and futures. And thank you for helping consumers understand and support soil health-improving regenerative agriculture and regenerative farmers. I’ve now attended 3 SHAs and hope to attend another next year. All of my life I have loved working with, and learning about, soil, plants, and animals. The more dirt under my fingernails, the better. At the risk of using a ubiquitous phrase – this has been a journey of discovery – and regenerative agriculture embraces this concept beautifully. As a regenerative farmer and rancher you don’t seek the perfect results, you seek better results, intentionally adapting your practices and learning from your mistakes.

I initially attended a Soil Health Academy out of a desire to improve the health of our soil. As I continue to farm/ranch following the 6 3 4, I face new challenges and questions. The SHA instructors provide a wealth of information derived from their own experiences as well as those of the farmers they consult with, are accessible and cater to the needs of their students, adapt the curriculum as new research and information becomes available, and remain positive about the future of agriculture. I’ve graduated from each experience with a deeper and more holistic understanding of my own homestead/farm, and excited to try and learn new things. Additionally I have enjoyed meeting and sharing ideas with other like-minded farmers and ranchers during each class.

I believe that regenerating the health of our farms and the families who steward the soil is imperative, and would encourage farmers and ranchers to attend a Soil Health Academy as an integral step toward that goal.

Starting My Regenerative Path at Soil Health Academy

By Jennifer Morehouse Last December, I had the privilege of attending the Soil Health Academy (SHA) at Chico State University in North Eastern California. When Soil Centric recommended SHA to me, I wasn’t sure I was the right audience. Although my extended family has a cattle ranching operation in South Dakota, I myself have no ranching or farming background.

Young farmer sees hope in regenerative ag future

Macauley Kincaid is a 25-year-old farmer with a simple goal: “We want to make it. We want to be successful,” he says. Married with two young children, Macauley believes the best way to be successful is to embrace soil health-focused, regenerative agricultural principles on his 440-acre, southwest Missouri farming operation.
